How to Restore Antique Cabinet Hardware

Are you wanting liven up your cabinet hardware without spending a lot of money? I recently had to do this for your rent house cabinets. It is easy to do and takes very little time to do it.

Removing and Cleaning Cabinet Hardware

Take a screwdriver and unscrew all the hardware. Get a good size bucket and put warm water with cleaner in it. Take the hardware and soak it the water for about 10 to 15 minutes to loosen all the grease/dirt that maybe on there. Clean them off with a rag and set them aside so they can dry.

Setting Up The Painting Surface

Find a good size cardboard box and tape up the bottom side if not already done. Take small sharp objects on one side preferably nails with small heads and stick them in the bottom of box. Make sure the nails match up with the hardware holes while allowing space so the hardware is not touching one another. Put the hardware over the nails to secure it while you paint.

Painting the Cabinet Hardware

Get your desired color of spray paint. You can find them at stores like Home Depot for under $5. Make sure you allow yourself a lot of ventilation before you start. Spray the hardware making sure you’re not too close so you have blotching. You may have to put a second coat if it didn’t cover completely. Let it dry for a while then screw all the hardware back onto the cabinet.
